FOR 1989

Lieutenant General HENRY DOCTOR, JR.

U.S. Army, Retired

 

General Doctor was born in Oakley, SC on August 23, 1932.  Upon graduation from South Carolina State College in June 1954, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant.  His military education includes the Army Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College.  In 1973, General Doctor earned a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling and Psychological Services from Georgia State University.

 

General Doctor has held a wide variety of important command and staff assignments, including command of infantry units at every echelon from platoon to division.  Following assignments in the Republic of Vietnam as Executive Officer, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry and Assistant Division G-3, 4th Infantry Division, General Doctor served as a Personnel Actions Officer and later Section Chief, Infantry Branch, Army Office of Personnel Operations, Alexandria, VA; Commander, 1st Battalion, 29th Infantry and Deputy Brigade Commander, 197th Infantry Brigade, Ft Benning, GA; Chief, Modern Volunteer Army control Group, Ft Benning, GA; Director of Psychometrics, Army War College; Commander, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Hawaii; Assistant Division Commander, 24th Infantry Division, Ft. Stewart, GA; Director, Personnel, Training, and Force Development, US Army Materiel Command, Alexandria, VA; and Commanding General, 2nd Infantry Division, Republic of Korea.

 

He was promoted to Lieutenant General on July 1, 1986 and was appointed The Inspector General of the United States Army.  Previously, he had served as the Deputy Army Inspector General for Investigations Assistance, Training, and Information Management.

 

General Doctor’s awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.  He has also earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

 

General Doctor is married to the former Janie M. Manigault.  They have 4 children: Constanza, Lori, Kenneth, and Cheryl.

Lieutenant General EDWARD HONOR

U.S. Army, Retired

 

Lieutenant General Honor was born on March 17, 1933 in Melville, LA.  He graduated from high school in Sunset, LA in June 1951.  Immediately after graduation he entered Southern University were he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in 1954.  His military education includes the Army command and General Staff College and the Army War College.

 

General Honor served at the highest levels of command and staff to include Commander, Military Transportation Management Command and Director for Logistics, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the highest logistics staff position in the Armed Forces.

 

During General Honor’s military career he received the following awards:  Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army General Staff Badge, Joint Chiefs of Staff Badge and the National Defense Transportation Association Department of Defense Distinguished Service Award.

In October 1989, General Honor was elected President of the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA), a non-profit, educational organization of military, government and private industry transportation professionals, dedicated to a strong transportation industry in support of national defense transportation and preparedness.  Lieutenant General Honor came to NDTA as its 28th President after an Army career of 35 years in Transportation and Logistics.  During General Honor’s tenure, the Association has experienced a steady growth and expansion.  Individual members increased from 5200 to 8300, corporate members increased from 67 to 161, and NDTA’s national committees were expanded from 3 to 5.  As a result of his work and a forward looking Board of Directors, the military, government and industry cooperation is at an all time high

 

General Honor is married to the former Phyllis V. Whitehurst of Portsmouth, VA
