History of the Chapter
Harry S. Truman Fort Leonard Wood Chapter In summer 2000, a small group of officers assigned to Fort Leonard Wood met informally to discuss the possibility of forming a ROCKS Interest Group. In August
2000, this interest group that had grown in number decided to move forward and seek full membership as a chapter in the ROCKS, Incorporated. In
March 2001 after seven months of research and coordination, the Harry S. Truman Chapter of The ROCKS Inc. was recognized as an official non-profit
organization by the National Chapter, Washington, District of Columbia. Brigadier General (Ret) Ronald L. Johnson served Advisor/Consultant. The Harry S. Truman Chapter's first professional development event, organized just prior to the charter, was an officer professional development (OPD) session
that featured Major General Aadland, Commanding General of the Maneuver Support Center (MANSCEN) and Fort Leonard Wood. The chapter continued to host
numerous OPD sessions throughout the next several years. In 2014, a small group of officers decided it was time to reinvigorate the Harry S. Truman
chapter with Major General Leslie C. Smith, Commanding General of the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence (MSCoE) and Fort Leonard Wood serving as
Advisor/Consultant. Today the organization continues to play a vital role in the Fort
Leonard Wood community.
